Forest Green Tree Frog

Description : Male 6-8cmSVL, Female 5-7cm SVL, Tadpole 5cm TL. The forest green tree frog is a large tree frog. It is a green or dark green in color. Some individuals have reddish spots on thier backs. It has large toe pads.

Habitat and Habits : The forest green tree frog is a woodland species that is hard to found except during the breeding season.

Breeding : This species breed in end of May to early July. They migrate to ponds, ricefields and ditches. The male calls in a low voice as " koro koro koko" at a branch or a hole of a stone wall. A female lays eggs at a branch or grass of the water's edge with some males. An egg mass seems first-sized meringue. Tadpoles hatch in a week. The egg mass is broken by rain and tadpoles drop into the water. They transform until end of August.

Range : This species occurs throughout Hiroshima except costral part. The breeding and a mass of this species are prized, and there are some cases of introduce, such as Hiroshima-shi and Hiba-gun.

Memos : This species was designated as a natural treasure in Yoshimizuen of Kake-cho.
