Wooden frames are used much like the frames of a manga strip, although balloons have been left out so as to accentuate the line-drawing quality of ukiyo-e prints. To create a form featured neither in manga nor ukiyo-e, though, the paintings are trapezoids. Because they contain no words, their message should be intuited through the drawings themselves. The series received the special award at JACA '97.
